So this is my progress on the Homecoming dress. It’s not finished yet; it still needs a hem on the sleeve (trying to figure out the best way to hem a piece of lace…), a bottom hem and the invisible zipper. I realized I don’t actually have the foot for my machine for invisible zippers and recalled the nightmare I went through previously when trying to work with one, so I went ahead and ordered that piece. The bottom hem I don’t want to do until I at least get to see the dress on my client to ensure a good fit (and that it’s not too short!).
I really wanted to get pictures of this on a dress form, but she’s so tiny compared to me that my dress form is just too large for this project to fit on. I suppose I should consider investing in a smaller size dress form if I expect to continue working with clothing for smaller people.
So far I’m relatively pleased with the progress.
(And yes, that’s white thread you see at the bottom — you should use contrasting thread for the baste stitches that intitially hold the lace to the “lining” fabric. It will be removed later.)
